Historical

The Red Army closed in on the city of Viipuri, with fighting in the suburbs.  Finnish delegates in Moscow asked for a ceasefire during negotiations.  The Soviets, about to take Viipuri, refused.

The British SS Counsellor struck a mine laid on 6^th January by U-30 in Liverpool Bay, England.

The British cruiser HMS Dunedin and the Canadian destroyer HMCS Assiniboine captured the German SS Hanover near Jamaica.  Hanover was later converted to become the escort aircraft carrier HMS Audacity.

U.S. envoy Sumner Welles had separate meetings with Jules Jeanneney (a French lawyer and politician) and Édouard Herriot (a former French Prime Minister).  Both stated that France would continue the war until Germany was defeated.

Game day 190. Japan

Japan collected 12 Industrial resource points.  These were saved for later use.

The two troopships at Peking sailed back towards Japan, while the four at Shanghai made for Okinawa.

Five squadrons of fighters from Manchukuo attacked two battalions of Chinese infantry in Kwangtung.  Both battalions were destroyed for the loss of one squadron.
