Hitler made a triumphant entrance into Paris and did some sightseeing.   He visited sites including the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe and Napoleon’s tomb at Les Invalides.

Despite the Franco-German agreement, cessation of hostilities in France depended on negotiation of a separate armistice with Italy. The French delegation left for Rome, including General Huntzinger who had just signed the Franco-German agreement at Compiègne.  Peace talks commenced at the Villa Incisa near Rome.  The French were prepared to walk out if the Italian demands were too harsh, but they were surprised at the leniency of the terms.

Using information from the Italian submarine Galileo Galilei captured on 19th June the British sloop HMS Shoreham located the Italian submarine Evangelista Torricelli at the mouth of the Red Sea and forced her to the surface with depth charges.  Evangelista Torricelli engaged the British destroyers HMS Kandahar, Kingston and Khartoum with her deck gun but was sunk near Perim Island.  Later, HMS Khartoum was badly damaged when one of her own torpedoes exploded on deck, killing one man. Khartoum was beached on Perim Island to prevent sinking, but later declared a total loss.

Charles de Gaulle is officially cashiered from the French Army by the defeated French Commander in Chief General Weygand, although he continued to use the title of General de Gaulle as leader of the Free French.

U-99 was bombed twice by the Luftwaffe while returning from Bergen to Wilhelmshaven, causing only minor damage.

British commandos made their first raid, landing at Boulogne but failing to capture any prisoners.

One convoy left the Philippines for Hanoi with supplies for China while a second, smaller, one sailed from Hawaii.
