The Danish tanker Danmark was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-23 off the Orkney Islands. The crew of 40 escaped safely.

The French government banned the sale of meat on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays.  Pork, goat and horse were excepted from the ban.

Albrecht Kesselring was appointed to command the Luftwaffe’s 2nd Air Fleet.

Norwegian infantry continued north-east towards the Finnish border.

The USA loaded 15 IRP onto cargo ships on the west coast.  The supplies were intended for the Chinese nationalist government.
