Hermann Göring was appointed head of the German war economy and all factories producing war materials.

The Polish government-in-exile reached an agreement with French authorities to establish Polish military units in France.

President Roosevelt asked Congress for $1.8 million for the defence budget.

The British bacon ration was fixed at 4 ounces (113g) per person per week from 8th January.
