The British Aircraft Carrier Ark Royal and the Cruiser Renown arrived in Cape Town.

RAF Wellington bombers attacked German shipping and claimed a hit on a cruiser.  One aircraft failed to drop one of its bombs which later fell onto the island of Heligoland, making this the first British bomb to be dropped on Germany.  The squadron was attacked by German fighters and one ME109 may have been shot down, according to post-action reports.  All 24 Wellingtons returned safely.
