Baker Company took point and moved towards the east edge of the city.

They called up artillery support from the 75mm howitzer battery to the south east, but no damage was done.
As the Germans were recovering from the artillery shelling the Paras subjected them to a hail of small arms fire. The gunners fled and the paras took the position.
Mission accomplished, the Battalion regrouped and moved back to the east to prepare for the expected enemy counter-attack.
