Five days of wargaming

Preparing myself for five days of Napoleonic Wargaming at the Wargames Holiday Centre . I am lucky enough to live about 15 minutes from the centre.
We will play a rolling series of battles set in Napoleon’s invasion of Russia. Several of my Peninsular Campaign players will be there, as a result of the Donald Featherstone Tribute weekend in march 2014, and it appears we have a contingent from Austria joining us.

  1. An interesting experience. I have partially learned a new set of rules, had a spectacular win by taking two French batteries at Smolensk with my solid Russian infantry in day 1, a day of waiting in the fleches at Borodino for an attack that never came, and a day and a half trying to take those same fleches from the desperate Russians.
How can my second class infantry continually roll high enough morale to ignore several rounds of canister fire from 12 pounders, only to roll two consecutive double ones when reaching the guns? After the desperate struggle over the parapet, my men fell back and the Russian gunners, outnumbered 4:1, rolled triple six and would not clear off!
